Key Takeaways
Takeaways: Creating this travel website really helped me understand the importance of balancing design and functionality. I got hands-on experience with HTML and CSS, and learned how to structure content in a way that makes sense while also keeping things visually engaging. One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of responsive design, making sure everything looks and works great, whether someone is on a phone, tablet, or desktop.
Successes: One of the biggest wins in this project was how clean and user-friendly the interface turned out. I focused on building a layout that was easy to navigate, with imagery that really captured the feeling of travel and exploration. Using semantic HTML improved accessibility, and the CSS brought everything to life with bold colors and thoughtful typography. I also implemented hover effects and media queries, which made the site more interactive and responsive across different screen sizes. It was exciting to see everything come together in a way that felt both professional and fun.
Changes: If I were to revisit this project, the first thing I’d do is update the color scheme. I originally chose a palette inspired by Montana’s green, natural landscapes, but in practice, it came out too dark and didn’t quite give off the warm, welcoming vibe I was aiming for. In the future, I’d explore lighter, more inviting tones and test different combinations to make sure the contrast is strong enough for accessibility. A more intentional use of color would help reinforce the feeling of adventure and openness that travel is all about.
Using This Experience for the Future: This project laid a solid foundation for my web development journey. It gave me practical experience in building websites from the ground up and taught me to think about how users will interact with every element on the page. Moving forward, I’ll continue building on these skills by incorporating JavaScript and backend functionality into my projects, but I’ll always keep the user experience front and center.
