Takeaways: This project gave me valuable practice building a website from the ground up while also diving into independent research. It was a great opportunity to combine technical skills with content development, and it helped me better understand how to present complex information in a clear and engaging way.

Successes: One of the things I’m most proud of is the simplicity and clarity of the site. The clean design allows Gattorno’s art to take center stage, which was really important for honoring his work. The straightforward structure makes it easy to navigate, and the detailed written content helps provide historical and cultural context that brings his pieces to life. I’m especially happy that the site helps shed light on such an influential yet unknown Cuban artist.

Changes: Given the short timeframe, I wasn’t able to make the site responsive, and that’s the first thing I’d improve. Ensuring the site works well across all screen sizes would make it much more accessible and user-friendly. I’d also love to enhance the visual presentation a bit more with better spacing, image optimization, and possibly a more interactive gallery to really showcase his artwork.

Using This Experience for the Future: This project helped me strengthen my core web development skills. More importantly, it reminded me of the power of storytelling through design. Moving forward, I want to keep building websites that not only function well but also honor the subject matter, whether that’s for artists, organizations, or causes. I’m also more motivated now to learn responsive design best practices and explore how to add richer media and interactivity to future sites. This project showed me how web development can be both technical and creative, and I’m excited to keep growing in both areas.
